LAKE ANNECY PANORAMAS

As Alpes Atlas Trekking is based in Annecy, it is only natural that we should take you into our mountains where the lake, in its peaceful setting, sets your walking speed...
Why not tour round it? Because walking all day in a forest without a single wide angle view, not even on the day you arrive, is a bit of a shame! Because if you're tired, you can decide against an outing without having to abandon the holiday (as you would have to do with a roaming arrangement). What we would like is for you to take it all in and to reward yourself! With this aim in mind, the ideal package is the starred holiday, where you always sleep in the same hotel in Annecy’s old town (where you can also stroll in the late afternoon and evening).

Holiday price: €620 (full board)
Duration: 7 days of walking/6 nights
Included: full board in a **hotel (Picnics at noon), outward and return journeys by minibus to the start of trails, instruction from a state qualified mountain professional who is up to speed with recent developments. Free: Tour of Annecy’s old town with a qualified tour guide.
Not included: transport to the meeting place, drinks and personal expenses, cancellation insurance
Technical level: very easy
Physical level: easy to moderate
Meeting and drop-off: welcome at Annecy mainline railway station on Sundays mornings in the arrival of your train. Dispersal on Saturdays early in the afternoon after the picnic.
Departures: every Sunday, all year.

Getting to Annecy:
Besides the public buses that run between Geneva and Annecy, there is now a shuttle bus service from Geneva airport: see http://www.alp-line.com/. AlpLine also provide transport from Grenoble, and other cities. Flights from the UK to Geneva are available with some ‘no-frills’ airlines, such as Easyjet (www.easyjet.com).
International airports:
Annecy Haute-Savoie Airport / Tel. 00 33 (0)4 50 27 30 06
Geneva - Cointrin / Tel. 00 41 22 799 31 11 - Fax 799 31 40. “Accueil France” desk at the airport / Tel. 00 41 22 798 20 00
Lyon Airport - Saint Exupéry / Tel. 00 33 (0)4 72 22 72 21
By road:
The A41 motorway to Annecy (south exit).
By train:
Terminus at the Annecy TGV station.

If you arrive the day before:

You can pay a 30% deposit or the balance of your holiday
By bank transfer

By debit/credit card: by PayPal.

Debit card bookings are processed immediately. You will be sent a receipt by email, as soon as the bank confirms your payment.

In addition to this basic package, you can book further activities with qualified professionals. For example, if you want to get to the start of the trail by boat, we will take you to the embarkation point (you pay the captain for your ticket) and we will pick you up when you disembark at the closest point to the start of the hike. The same goes for the return journey if you like.
It is also possible to reach the start of the trail by bicycle along a flat cycle route which runs round the lake. Here too, we will take you to the bike hire centre (where you pay for the hire) and will wait for you at the start of the trail for a half-day hike.
After climbing the mountain, if you don’t want to come down on foot, you can come in a two-seater paraglider! You also pay a qualified professional for this, and there’s no need to book.

When the sail rises, the descent becomes peaceful...

As if there wasn't enough adrenalin already packed into this à la carte holiday, you can add a small final touch (go on, be a devil!) by going for a balloon ride! Taking us where the winds blow us, the adventure is complete because the return leg involves orienteering (overseen by your guide - booking is compulsory).
In the winter you can partner your snowshoe hike with an outing with sled dogs or on skis pulled by a horse (skijoring). You also pay the local professional for these options, there and then.
Let's not forget the fine mountain cuisine which you will taste in the evening at the farm on the terrace next to the canal (included in the price of the holiday).
You can add Lac Léman Panoramas and Lac du Bourget (Aix les Bains) Panoramas to your week. They require a further three days (see weekend).

FACT SHEET

Supervision:
A state-qualified mountain instructor.

Group:
Up to 12 hikers.

Your hiking equipment:

Head:
A broad-rimmed hat, sunglasses, a headband to protect your forehead and ears.

Hands:
Two pairs of gloves or mittens.

Body:
A moisture-wicking t-shirt along with a thin fleece and a Gore Tex-type jacket are ideal. Several layers of clothing are better than one big layer, but do not overlay cotton clothing (which retains moisture) with a view to wicking moisture because the cotton will cancel out the function of the other layers...

Legs:
Hiking trousers or over-clothing and Gore Tex trousers because run-off from your jacket will inevitably run down between your legs. If you don’t have any Gore Tex, bring a poncho and gaiters. Boxer shorts avoid overheating.

Feet:
Hiking socks absorb impacts better, have better moisture-wicking properties and retain heat better than tennis socks. They also last longer! Two or three pairs will be enough because you can wash them quickly in the shower.
Leather or Gore Tex high-cut hiking shoes with semi-rigid Vibram type soles are needed for loose ground, névé (porous ice not yet frozen to form glacier ice) or stony mountain terrain.

Your backpack:
A 35 or 40 litre backpack with broad straps and stomach strap.

In your backpack:
Your day things (camera, sun cream, picnic, pullover and rain clothing, water, etc.). A pair of (telescopic) walking sticks is recommended.
